Last Saturday was the wedding for clients that hired me for "day of" coordination. This wedding was a new experience for me and it was nothing short of amazing and beautiful. The bride is Vietnamese and while I knew of some Asian traditions, I yet had the honor of witnessing them first hand. The bride was remarkably calm when I arrived at her house and she looked absolutely stunning. At the ceremony, the couple was pleasantly surprised by a special song that one of the bride's sisters played on the piano.
As wonderful as the ceremony was, it was the reception that really fascinated me. They had a 10 (or was it 12?) course meal, the MC was phenomenal and also a translator which I thought was fabulous. He really got the place pepped up. A few courses into the night, the bride & groom changed into their Asian wedding attire and went around to the tables with the 2 best men, maid of honor and their parents. Once they were done with that there was yet another surprise in store for them. The maid of honor, another sister of the bride, set up a surprise Lion Dance for them. The MC announced it and then the dancers came in. It was really cool. I have seen them on TV but never in person and it was just really amazing. The beats, the moves, all of it.
I loved helping the bride's sisters pull their surprises off because it was so great to see how much it meant to all of them. There was a lot of love in that room. The parents of both the bride and groom were such wonderful people and the speeches from the maid of honor and the best men were great. Actually their wedding party was also quite fantastic, they definitely made my job easier. They were so polite and helpful, not to mention genuinely thankful for my help. I greatly appreciated that. They were all so welcoming that by the end of that wedding I didn't quite feel like just a "coordinator", but also felt like a guest.
So to the new Mr. & Mrs. I would like to say thank you for giving me the honor of being a part of your day. It was beautiful and one I will not soon forget. I don't doubt the beautiful life ahead of you. Best wishes for a happy & healthy life together.
